London: Low-budget comedy Anora has triumphed at this year’s Oscars winning five Oscars of the six awards it was up for: best picture, director, actress, editing and original screenplay. Anora, which follows Mikey Madison’s sex worker who gets married to the son of a Russian oligarch, had premiered at the Cannes film festival last year.
Writer-director-editor Sean Baker—who won the best director award for Anora—has tied Walt Disney’s record for amount of Oscars taken home in one night.
“The Brutalist” went home with three awards, while “Wicked” and “Dune: Part Two” each received two.
“Emilia Pérez” took home two awards, for best supporting actress and best original song.
Conan O’Brien managed hosting duties for the telecast. The event lasted for about four hours and included a “Wicked” medley, a James Bond number and a Quincy Jones tribute.
