Bhubaneswar: An Assistant Professor at the Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT) was found hanging inside her official quarter in Odisha’s capital late Thursday night, according to reports.

The deceased was identified as Basanti Jena, Assistant Professor at the Department of Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry.

Khandagiri police have begun investigations.

Her husband, Debi Prasanna Das, is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology at OUAT. They have a six-year-old son. The couple got married in 2012.

Das was reportedly out with their son for a walk when the incident took place. Basanti hanged herself from a ceiling fan, according to police.

“When I returned at around 8.30 pm, the main gate was locked from inside. I thought she must have done it in anger and waited,” Das was quoted as saying in reports.

“Between 9 pm and 9.30 pm, I climbed the boundary wall and entered the house. I saw her body hanging. I immediately brought her down and called ambulance. Doctors declared her brought dead,” he was quoted as saying.
