Baleshwar: In a harrowing development that has sent shockwaves through Odisha’s Baleshwar district, a woman was allegedly tied to a pole and subjected to rape in Jaleswar.
Marking the second horrific sexual violence incident reported from Jaleswar area within a single week, the brutal act has sparked widespread outrage across civil society. This latest atrocity follows closely on the heels of another severe case in Jaleswar, where a minor girl was allegedly raped and murdered on October 16, leading to public condemnation and administrative action against local police personnel for negligence in handling the case.
According to sources, the survivor in the latest incident told police that the crime took place around seven to eight days ago. Terrified and facing persistent intimidation from local residents, the woman was initially hesitant to approach authorities. In her written complaint filed at the local police station, she recounted how a local youth forcibly dragged her inside a house and subjected her to severe sexual assault after tying her to a pillar.
The revelation has ignited intense public anger amid delays in apprehending the suspect, who reportedly remains at large.
While police have registered a formal case and launched an investigation. the IIC and investigating officer confirmed that a medical examination of the survivor has been conducted. However, no arrests have been made so far, and official comments from both police and the survivor are awaited even as sources indicated that special teams are scrutinising forensic details to establish the sequence of events.
