Bhubaneswar: Over 1.87 lakh cases are pending in Orissa High Court as of October 31, Law Minister Pratap Jena told the Odisha Assembly here on Tuesday.
In a written reply to the question raised by Cuttack-Choudwar MLA Souvik Biswal, the minister said 17,68, 704 were pending disposal in district courts while 8,95,412 cases have been disposed of in the last three years.
The HC has formed the Arrears Committee and Mission Mode Committee for the speedy trial of the pending cases, Jena said, adding that district Judges have been directed to do the same.
“Steps are being taken to establish various courts across the state in a phased manner and ensure prompt justice to people through Lok Adalats,” he added.
