Cuttack: Over 100 people fell sick in Salipur area of Odisha’s Cuttack district on Saturday, hours after partaking of ‘prasad’ during a religious programme – astaprahar jajna.
Sources said the religious programme was held at Kanpur village. After the programme ended on Friday night, hundreds of people from Kanpur, Ramkapur, Deuli, Jayirampur and Guali villages had been served Prasad.
Later most of them complained of nausea, vomiting while others were affected by diarrhoea. Some of the affected people were immediately admitted to Nischintakoili, Mahanga and Salipur community health centres.
On being informed, two medical teams from Salipur and Mahanga community health centres visited these villages to take stock of the situation.
Health officials have distributed medicines to affected people. Food poisoning was suspected to have caused the problem, the sources added.
