Bhubaneswar: The automobile sector, which had witnessed a slump even before the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, registered a slow start after relaxation of lockdown in the state in May.
According to State Transport Authority (STA) data, 15,193 vehicles were sold in May after the government allowed the dealers to resume operation from May 4. Even though in normal times, more than 60,000 vehicles are sold every month, the sale of over 15,000 vehicles is encouraging trend, said the STA.
Of the total vehicles sold, two-wheelers accounted for about 12,000 units.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter led the two-wheeler segment by selling 4,484 units, followed by Hero Motor Corp with 4,196.
Similarly, TVS sold 2,228 units and Royal Enfield 576 units, according to the STA data.
