Bhubaneswar: While the daily caseload continues to see a drop, the number of deaths due to the deadly disease has remained above 60 in Odisha for the past one month. The toll rose to 6102 on Tuesday with 69 more fatalities, the highest in a single day, being confirmed in the last 24 hours.
The deaths announced now include the backlog of May and June for which audit has been duly completed and the cause of death has been identified as COVID-19, the Health Department clarified.
Among the new fatalities, the highest 23 are from Khurda followed by 9 from Cuttack, 7 from Puri, 6 from Kendrapada, 3 each from Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur and Bhadrak, 2 each from Angul, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jajpur and Kalahandi and one each from Balangir and Nayagarh.
The state had added 1903 deaths in July, which pushed the case fatality rate to 2.89 per cent. On an average, 61 deaths were reported daily. The total death count during last month was more than the fatalities during the first wave when 1876 had succumbed to the virus.
In terms of the total number of deaths, Khurda district has the highest 1188 deaths followed by Sundargarh (538), Ganjam (449), Puri (375), Cuttack (366), Bargarh (290), Angul (262), Mayurbhanj (214), Kalahandi (200), Balasore (195), Sambalpur (176), Rayagada (159), Jharsuguda (157), Nayagarh (150), Kendrapada (145), Keonjhar (130), Dhenkanal (127), Jagatsinghpur (106), Boudh (105) and Balangir (103).
