Ayodhya: Over the last few years, the temple town of Ayodhya looks to surpass its own record of lighting diyas, or earthen lamps, along the banks of Saryu river.
The number was 22 lakh in 2023. This time, the number of diyas that have lit up Ayodhya crossed 23 lakh on Wednesday, the eve of Diwali.
On a dazzling night, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath was presented certificates of 2 Guinness World Records created during the 2024 #Deepotsav celebrations in Ayodhya.
Records were set for the most number of people performing diya rotation simultaneously and the largest display of oil lamps with 25,12,585 achieved by Ayodhya district administration of UP government’s Tourism department.
This year’s #Deepotsav is even more special as it’s the first following the consecration of the Ram Mandir in January.
The aim of the Uttar Pradesh government was to light up around 28 lakh diyas.
Aarti was performed with 1,100 diyas by 1,100 Vedacharyas at Sarayug Ghat.
Thousands watched from the banks of Saryu and from a distance in the city as dazzling laser and light shows were conducted. Among the many highlights were drone shows and Ram Leela narrated through a sound-light show.
Colourful light crackers of many shapes lit up the night sky to the amazement of the audience. Watch videos shared by ANI of the sparkling celebrations:
