New Delhi: The National Capital and its adjoining regions faced fresh monsoon mayhem on Monday.
Torrential rains and gusty winds threw life in Delhi-NCR off gear, and even the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) was not spared.
Flight operations were severely affected, with more than 250 flights facing delays.
Fifteen flights had to be diverted due to the weather, including three international flights. Twelve planes were diverted to Jaipur, two to Chandigarh and one to Lucknow.

Several airlines issued advisories warning passengers that adverse weather could affect connecting flights as well. Spice Jet asked travellers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
Air India said, “Adverse weather conditions may impact flight operations to and from Delhi today.”
IndiGo’s alert said the weather has impacted flight schedules. “We are closely monitoring the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly.”
Akasa Air said, “Due to severe weather conditions in Delhi, certain flights across our network have been impacted. We realise that this may inconvenience your travel plans and seek your patience and understanding.”
Waterlogging in central Delhi
Central Delhi saw waterlogging, including places in and around Connaught Place. It led to traffic snarls in several areas of Delhi, with videos and photos shared on social media showing several vehicles getting stalled and people having to wade through waist-high water.
The Opposition mocked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for creating ‘free water parks’ for children.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for heavy rain in several districts and a yellow alert for moderate rainfall in others.
Heavy rain with thunderstorms, lightning and winds reaching 30-40 kmph was forecast in some places across several parts of Delhi, including southeast Delhi, east Delhi, Shahdara, central Delhi, northeast Delhi, south Delhi, New Delhi, southwest Delhi, west Delhi, northwest Delhi and north Delhi.
Moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph, was also forecast at many places in parts of Central Delhi, South Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi and North Delhi.
About a month after heavy rains flooded Delhi-NCR, there are concerns of flooding in India’s Capital.
