Over 30 Cattle Stranded In Swelling Kathajodi River Near Cuttack Rescued Safely

Bhubaneswar: More than 30 cattle were rescued in a dramatic operation after the animals got stranded on the Kathajodi riverbed near Trisulia in Odisha’s Cuttack following sudden surge in the water level.

Sources said the herd of around 31 cattle had been taken for grazing near Kaliapatna when the river, swollen by the release of water from the Hirakud dam, rose unexpectedly, cutting off all escape routes.

The cattle remained trapped at the site for hours as they got surrounded by water on all sides.
After receiving information, the Fire Service Department deployed two team from Barang and CDA to carry out a coordinated rescue operation.

Officials said all the cattle were rescued and brought to safety after a nearly four-hour-long operation carried out by the Fire Service personnel in a swift operation. The timely rescue of the animals was crucial, as the river water level is expected to rise further, they said.
