New Delhi: So how acute is the employment scenario in India? Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday cited the ongoing recruitment process for filling up of khalasi posts to highlight the perceived joblessness in the country.
Participating in the discussion on the budget in Rajya Sabha, Chidambaram made the following remarks.
There was an advertisement to fill up 62,707 vacancies. The number of applications stood at a whopping 82 lakh. Out of them, 4,19,137 are B.Tech graduates and 40,751 had a masters degree in engineering.
“This is the economy you inherited in NDA II,” Chidambaram said, as he made a sharp attack against the Narendra Modi government’s policies.
The government, he said, had the advantage of taking bold decisions. But what stopped them, he said referring to the proposals of the budget.
“Dr Manmohan Singh and I’ve exchanged notes and we wish he had such mandate of that kind sometime in our life. With your allies, you have have a mandate of over 352. Why did you not take bold measures?” he questioned.
