Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police seized over Rs 4 lakh from a car near OMFED square under Chandrsekharpur police limits in Bhubaneswar during a checking against drunken driving under ‘Safe City Drive’ on Saturday night.
The driver of the car has been identified as Dibyajyoti Nayak. He has been detained for questioning.
Nayak was allegedly driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and crashed into the barricades put up for night blocking. “The person was driving dangerously and almost hit our staff after breaking through barricade. The cops inspected the vehicle and Rs 4.77 lakh in cash. The driver was found to be heavily drunk. A case has been registered at Chandrasekharpur police station,” Commissioner of Police Sanjeeb Panda informed.
While the damaged car was towed to police station, Nayak is being questioned to ascertain the source of the money, he added.
To crack a whip on drunken driver, police have been conducting night blocking at different places across the city.
