Rayagada: As many as 41 girl boarders of a government high school have tested COVID positive in Odisha’s Rayagada district.
After some students of Government Girls’ High School staying in hostel at Chandrapur under the same block of the district complained of illness, the authorities carried out their test on August 3. The test report confirmed that 12 students were infected by COVID.
On Thursday, 29 more students, who underwent COVID test, also were found to be infected by coronavikrus, taking the total infected students to 41. The school is managed by the district welfare office under SC/ST department.
Speaking to media persons, district welfare officer Ashok Kumar Satpathy said all the infected students have been kept in isolation. There was no cause of worry as their condition was stable, he added.
Stating that the headmasters of all high schools under the department in the district have been directed to remain alert about possible spread of the disease, Satpathy said the rest students staying in the hostel of Chandrapur school will also be tested. Around 300 students of the school are staying in the hostels.
All remedial measures as per the state government guidelines are being taken to check the spread of the disease, he added.
