Malkangiri: More than 500 workers of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress joined BJP during a visit of Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs and Jal Shakti Biseswar Tudu to the district on Tuesday.
Speaking at a function organised to welcome the BJD and Congress workers from Bandaghati and Swabhuman Anchal under Chitrakonda Assembly constituency, Tudu called upon BJP workers to gear up for the panchayat elections next month.
He told them to make people aware of the state government’s negligence towards tribal people of remote areas and welfare schemes of the Centre for them. Local leaders of the party were present at the function.
The minister also laid the foundation stone of Ekalabya private model school at Balimela and took stock of implementation of different welfare schemes of the Central government.
