Khurda: The Drug Disposal Committee destroyed over six quintal of ganja seized by STF of Odisha Police at Tangiapada in Khurda on Friday.
According to an official release, the 616 kg of marijuana seized from peddlers was first authenticated by the concerned court and handed over to the committee for destruction. The contraband was destroyed in presence of scientific officers of the State Forensic Science laboratory and members of the State Pollution Board.
Since the stock of ganja and other contraband seized in various cases was piling up following a massive campaign against narcotics by Odisha police, the STF had moved Orissa High Court urging for the disposal. On January 31, the court passed a judgment directing the sub-ordinate courts to dispose of the applications filed under Section 52A of the NDPS Act, 1985, it added.
