New Delhi: An overnight addition of 62,482 positive cases took India’s COVID-19 tally past 20 lakh to 20,23,821 on Friday. This is the highest single-day surge in coronavirus cases in the country so far.
Also, 886 people succumbed to the virus infection in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s death toll to 41,585, the Union Health Ministry informed.
The cumulative recovered cases (13,78,105) have surpassed active cases by 7,70,721.
However, the fatality rate dipped a bit to 2.07 percent and was observed to be falling progressively, according to a Health Ministry release. Also, India’s recovery rate now stands at 67.62 percent.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 2,27,88,393 samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far, including 6,39,092 on Thursday. The ICMR has set up 1383 COVID-19 testing labs across the country.
