New Delhi: A total of 63,489 new cases registered overnight took India’s COVID-19 tally past 25.5 lakh-mark to stand at 25,89,682 on Sunday. In a span of two days, country’s coronavirus tally crossed 1.5 lakh.
Moreover, India has been reporting over 60,000 cases daily since August 7, barring August 11, when it registered 53,601 new infections.
Also, 944 more patients succumbed to the infection across the country in the last 24 hours. The fatality rate has dipped below 2 per cent and stands at 1.94 per cent with total 49,980 COVID-19 deaths.
However, mortality rates are low in India due aggressive testing and early detection coupled with quick isolation and effective treatment protocol, said Union Health Ministry.
About 71.61 per cent (18,62,258 ) people have recovered, including 57,381 patients in the last 24 hours, while 26.45 per cent (6,77,444) are still under treatment.
According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the total number of samples tested so far is 2,93,09,703 which includes Saturday’s 7,46,608.
Five most affected states by total counts of positive cases are Maharashtra (5,60,126), Tamil Nadu (3,26,245), Andhra Pradesh (2,64,142), Karnataka (2,03,200) and Delhi (1,50,000).
