Bhubaneswar: More than 98,000 posts are lying vacant in different departments of the Odisha government, the state Assembly was informed on Tuesday.
In a written answer in the House, Rural Development, Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Pritiranjan Gharai said that a total of 98,348 posts are lying vacant in 41 government departments.
The highest 26,815 posts are lying vacant in the Health department followed by 21,844 in the School and Mass Education department, he said, citing data available from the GA & PG department.
The lowest number of only one vacancy lies in the department of Industries.
The state government has increased the upper age limit from 32 years to 38 years for the recruitment to various posts in calendar year 2024.
To a query on increasing the upper age limit to 42 for the government job aspirants, the Minister said that the state government is yet to receive any proposal in this regard.
