Sonepur: Another man in Odisha fell victim to cyber frauds who withdrew more than Rs 16,000 from his bank account without his knowledge on Monday.
As per a complaint filed at Sonepur Sadar police station, Jagannath Tripathy of Spinning Mill Colony in the town received a message on his whatsapp on the day. The message had only an internet link. Without suspecting anything, Tripathy clicked on the link, but did not find any content.
After some time, he got SMS message from Axis Bank where he has an account that Rs 16,900 had been withdrawn. The amount was withdrawn in three phases. First Rs 10,000, then Rs 5,000 and Rs 1,900 were withdrawn from Tripathy’s bank account in Axis Bank’s branch in the town.
When Tripathy went to the bank to enquire, he found that his account has been converted into joint account and the amount had been withdrawn from the fictitious account holder. Besides, he found that his whatsapp had been hacked as he did not receive any message after the fraud.
Tripathy has lodged a complaint at Sonepur Sadar police station.
