Angul: The GST officials have detected tax evasion amounting to more than Rs 60 crore during raids on business establishments of 2 brothers in Odisha’s Angul.
According to sources, the GST officials conducted simultaneous raids on the properties of the two brothers at 5 places on Saturday. Hingula Transport of Mahendra Behera and Hingula Traders of his brother Rajendra Behera were also raided.
The GST officials checked the document and seized some papers and electronic devices related to business transactions. The tax evasion has been detected mostly in coal mining and transportation by the two brothers, the sources said.
Speaking to media persons during the raid, GST officer Biranchi Mahnandia said, “We had conducted raids on BB Traders and Om Roadways in Talcher on April 4. During the raid, we established link between these two establishments with Behera brothers. Following verification, we conducted scrutiny of the two traders transactions and came to know that a big amount of tax evasion was involved for which we are carrying out raids in Angul.”
He further said the checking of document was going on and it would take some time to complete. “From preliminary investigation, we have detected tax evasion of more than Rs 60 crore. We think the amount would be higher by the time the checking is completed,” he added.
