Bhubaneswar: Sizzling under searing heatwave for the last three weeks, Odisha is likely to get some respite from the tormenting conditions with the weather agency predicting rain and thunderstorm in several parts of the state.
Western Odisha and adjoining districts, which have been reeling under blistering heatwave, witnessed overcast skies on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
With cloudy weather prevailing in the region, most of the districts in the western belt are likely to experience considerable drop in the maximum temperature.
The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said that the mercury may drop by 4 to 6 degree Celsius in the next three to four days in many places in Odisha.
Several parts of the state are likely to experience thunderstorm coupled with rain, lightning and gusty surface wind in the next few days, it said.
While rainfall activities are likely to bring the much-needed respite from the scorching heatwave, some parts of the state are likely to experience gusty surface wind with speed reaching 30-40 kmph for the next few days.
Light rain or thundershower is likely to occur at some places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, and Rayagada in next 24 hours.
Hheatwave conditions prevailed in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh, Angul, Nayagarh, Nuapada and Balangir.
