AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday flayed West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee for making an “unnecessary” controversy out of the voting dates by dragging the holy month of Ramzan into it.
Soon after the poll dates were announced on Sunday, TMC had said the dates clashed with the Ramzan month and therefore the fasting Muslim voters would have difficulty venturing out in the May heat to cast their votes. It saw a conspiracy to stop the voters from exercising their franchise.
“Muslims will definitely fast in Ramzan, they go out and lead a normal life, they go to the office, even the poorest of the poor will also fast. My analysis is that this month (Ramzan) will lead to more voting percentage because one will be free from all worldly duties,” Mr Owaisi remarked.
“I would earnestly request those political parties that please don’t use the Muslim community & Ramzan for whatever reasons you have,” said the parliamentarian.
