Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to begin paddy procurement in the state from November 1.
“This year, the Kharif paddy procurement will start from Kalahandi district. The number of farmers registered for this purpose has enhanced and the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy increased to Rs 100 per quintal,” an official informed.
Last year, 11.20 lakh farmers had participated in the paddy procurement process in the state. A total of 11.30 lakh farmers have so far registered this year.
The deadline for registration is November 15.
A total of 1.55 lakh new farmers have already registered themselves with the government. However, the number is very less in Bhadrak district as only 46, 883 farmers have registered so far against 47,982 last year, the official added.
