Bargarh: A farmers’ body in Bargarh district called a 12-hour bandh in Attabira on Wednesday to demand reintroduction of P-PAS (Paddy Procurement Automation System).
All trading establishments and government offices were closed, but educational institutions were open.
A day earlier on Tuesday, Bargarh Collector Jyoti Ranjan Pradhan had meet the farmers. Claiming the meeting to be successful, Pradhan said, “The paddy which has arrived at the RMC (Regional Market Committee) yard will be procured on a priority basis.”
On the other hand, the farmers said the meeting was inconclusive. “We will not sell our paddy through the online token system. We demand the reintroduction of the P-PAS system for paddy procurement. We will continue the agitation till our demands are met,” a farmer leader said.
