Islamabad: Pakistan’s opposition leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has torn into the Imran Khan government for sending political opponents to jail but shielding terrorists and giving them safe heaven.
Bilawal Bhutto, son of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, was addressing a media at the Sindh Assembly on Wednesday where he decried the contrast between the punishment given to his mother and his father — former Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari — and the lack of action against “groups that killed children in Pakistan and carried out attacks on foreign soil”.
“IS THIS THE MESSAGE WE ARE GIVING OUT TO THE WORLD? IMMUNITY FOR BANNED ORGANIZATIONS? YET, YOU CAN JAIL THE THREE-TIME ELECTED PRIME MINISTER (Nawaz Sharif) OF THIS COUNTRY BUT CANNOT TAKE ACTION AGAINST THOSE WHO KILL THE CHILDREN OF MY STATE AND CONDUCT TERROR ACTIVITIES IN FOREIGN SOIL,” HE SAID.
Bilawal’s comments came as China vetoed a UN resolution to designate JeM founder Masood Azhar as a global terrorist.
He also claimed that at least three ministers from Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party had links to banned terror groups, demanding their removal from the government.
Besides, he demanded the formation of a national security committee to tackle the menace of terrorism in the country.
