New Delhi: In a fresh peace overture to India, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that the neighbouring country wanted to resolve all issues, including Kashmir, through dialogue with India. The Pakistan PM noted that the only way for both the countries to repair the strained relationship was through dialogue. He made this statement while he was addressing a special session of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) Assembly in Muzaffarabad on “Kashmir Solidarity Day”. It is an annual Pakistani event, which is held to show support for the Kashmiris.
“We want all issues, including Kashmir, to be resolved through talks,” he said, adding that India should come out of the August 5, 2019 thought process and fulfil promises made to the UN and launch a dialogue.
This was in reference to scrapping of Article 370 that revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, leading to bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories.
India has repeatedly told Pakistan that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh “was, is and shall forever” remain an integral part of the country. The bilateral ties nosedived further after India abrogated Article 370. The Pakistan PM mentioned the Lahore Declaration of 1999, which was signed when then-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited Pakistan.
Son of Mumbai attack mastermind vows to free Kashmir, calls PM Modi ‘Shaitan’
Hafiz Talha Saeed, son of 2008 Mumbai attack mastermind, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, delivered a provocative speech at a rally in Lahore on Pakistan’s so-called ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ on February 5. According to reports, he demanded release of his jailed father and vowed to “liberate Kashmir from India at any cost.”
He also called PM Modi a “shaitan”(devil). “I want to warn PM Modi that Kashmir belongs to Muslims, and we will take Kashmir from you. It will be a part of Pakistan Muslim India soon,” Talha added. He claimed it was Modi’s propaganda to malign his father and declined the global designation of LeT as a terrorist organisation.
Talha also demanded that the Pakistani government review its policy and release Hafiz Saeed from prison. “Hafiz Saeed is not guilty; why is he suffering in jail?” Talha questioned.
