New Delhi: There’s a high possibility of a Pakistani link in the vandalisation of Arshdeep Singh’s Wikipedia page after India lost to Pakistan in the Asia Cup Super 4 clash in Dubai on Sunday night.
The IP address that was used to alter the Team India pacer’s Wikipedia page to write “Khalistani national cricket team” was the same one that edited out references to Pakistani military and former President Pervez Musharraf, reported India Today.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has summoned Wikipedia executives in India to seek an explanation on how the text in Arshdeep’s page was changed to reflect Khalistan association.
The page was subsequently restored.
Arshdeep was trolled on social media after he dropped a crucial catch in the penultimate over of Pakistan’s chase.
Teammates and former cricketers, however, stood by the young left-arm fast bowler who has broken into the Indian team after a string of impressive performances in the IPL.
Former skipper Virat Kohli said such things happen to everyone, while ex-opener Gautam Gambhir saw no reason to be critical of Arshdeep and praised the way he bowled the final over as Pakistan were taken to the penultimate delivery of the match before scraping through by 5 wickets.
Legendary opener was of the opinion there was no need to pay any heed to people who didn’t matter. “Had negative comments come from fellow-players or cricket experts, then we could have discussed that,” said Sunny, dismissing the trolls.
