Puri: Well-known ‘Pala’ (folk song) singer Sunil Mohapatra died after a truck ran over him in Odisha’s Puri district on Sunday.
As per reports, the incident took place when 54-year-old Sunil of Chhanijang village under Charicchak police station in the district was going on his motorcycle in the afternoon. A truck coming from opposite direction collided with him near Annapurna School.
On the impact of the collision, he was thrown off his bike and fell down on the road. A profusely bleeding Sunil died on the spot. Following the accident, the locals detained the truck driver and informed the police. They also blocked the road in protest, disrupting the traffic movement.
A team from Charicchak police station rushed to the spot and pacified the agitating protesters. He rescued the truck driver from them and sent him to the police station.
The traffic movement on the road was restored after the police assured the locals of taking necessary action against the truck driver. They also sent the body for post-mortem and registered a case in this regard.
The locals people have condoled the death of Sunil, who was a popular Pala singer in the area.
