Cuttack: A procession to commemorate Eid Milad-un-Nabi on the occasion of Prophet Muhammad’s birth anniversary in Odisha’s Cuttack city came to temporary halt on Monday after a young man was found waving a flag, resembling the Palestinian national flag.
According to sources, the incident occurred as the procession arrived in Buxi Bazaar, leading to commotion in the area. The procession had then to be halted for some time.
On being informed, Dargha Bazaar police rushed to the spot, seized the flag and held discussion with leaders of different Mohalla committees. The youth was also given a warning, following which the procession resumed towards Qadam-E-Rasool in Dargha Bazaar via Mission Road, Sutahat, Odia Bazaar, Ganga Mandir and Gourishankar Park.
Additional DCP Anil Mishra said though the flag was not exactly that of Palestinian, it was seized to avoid any trouble. “A Palestinian flag has three colours and a triangle. The flag seized from the youth’s procession has black, white and green colours but not the triangle. Besides, something was written on it So the flag didn’t have the exact specification of a Palestinian flag,” Mishra said and urged everyone not to make it an issue.
