Bhubaneswar: With the final voters’ list having been readied, the dates for the three-tier Panchayat Elections is likely to be announced by the end of December.
The office of the State Election Commission on Monday informed that the final voters’ list with new eligible voters will be published in three days. “Polling will be held in 91916 wards, 6794 panchayats in the state. The required ballot boxes are being procured,” it added.
Elections to form fresh councils will be conducted before the term of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) ends in March 2022.
For the first time, central counting will be done for the panchayat elections. Earlier, counting was being done at the polling booths itself.
The SEC has also raised the expenditure limit for candidates contesting the panchayat election.
