Cuttack: Even as the date of panchayat elections is yet to be announced, squabble among BJD workers for selection of candidates has surfaced with a party MLA facing the wrath of some of them in the district.
According to sources, Baramaba MLA of the BJD, Debi Prasad Mishra was manhandled by some party workers while he was on a visit to Narasinghpur in his constituency on Tuesday.
When Mishra arrived near Baselihata Chhak to inaugurate some development projects, around 100 BJD workers gheraoed his vehicle. As the MLA got down and started walking, they pushed and shoved him while shouting their demands.
However, Mishra did not sustain any injuries in the incident. Later, the agitated workers were pacified after the MLA assured them of looking into their grievances.
The sources said the BJD workers were agitated over the ruling party’s selection of the candidates for sarpanch and Samiti member posts in the panchayat election which is likely to be held early next year.
