Panchayat Polls: Candidate’s Husband ‘Kidnapped’ In Odisha’s Sonepur

Sonepur: In another incident of kidnap of the relatives of candidates for panchayat polls in the state, the husband of a panchayat samiti member was abducted in the district on Monday evening.

According to a police complaint filed by the candidate, Meena Deheri, while she along with her husband Rajesh Deheri had gone to campaign in Sakama village, 10-12 supporters of her rival candidate Basanti Das told them to go away from the village.

Basanti’s supporters allegedly misbehaved with Meena and scolded her in foul language. They also took away Rajesh with them forcibly.

Later, Meena filed a complaint ay Binka police station, alleging kidnap of her husband by Basanti’s supporters. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

It may be noted that BJP had alleged that its candidate for zilla parishad member post of zone II in Malkangiri district Pradip Kumar Madkami was kidnapped on January 31.

Similarly, the son of a sarpanch candidate was allegedly abducted in Khurda district while he was campaigning for his father in the last week of January.
