Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission (SEC) in Odisha has called an all-party meeting here at 11.30 am on Monday to discuss the upcoming panchayat polls.
The SEC will discuss the holding of the panchayat polls with the parties amid the prevailing COVID-19 situation in Odisha, and seek their views and suggestions on how the polls can be conducted smoothly.
After Monday’s meeting, the SEC is likely to announce the dates for the panchayat elections soon.
Following a meeting of its top officials with State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi, the state government on Saturday announced its readiness to conduct the three-tier panchayat elections.
The government, in three Gazzette notifications issued on the day, called upon the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to elect people’s representatives to different posts.
