Bhubaneswar: The Distribution Reforms Committee (DRC) of Odisha government has accorded in principal approval to the action plan and Detailed Project Report (DPR) to be submitted to Ministry of Power under Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
At the DRC meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena on Monday, a total outlay of Rs 6,283 crore was approved. Of the outlay, the Centre will fund Rs 3,942 crore while the rest amount of Rs 2,341 crore will be borne by the state.
The chief secretary emphasised on developing cyclone resilient network in coastal areas where power distribution network is most vulnerable to the damage due to cyclones. “Around 70% of the funds will be invested in the development of cyclone resilient network which will ensure uninterrupted power supply to critical installations like hospitals, evacuation centres, water supply points, emergency control rooms and administrative blocks,” he said.
RDSS aims at improving the reliability and quality of supply, operational efficiencies and financial sustainability by providing financial assistance to DISCOMs for strengthening power distribution infrastructure.
