Baripada: The man who had smuggled a pangolin in Mayurbhanj on Tuesday has tested positive for COVID-19. Subsequently, the pangolin that was recovered from his possession has also been tested. If found positive, it will be isolated, otherwise, it’ll be released into forests, said Vanoomitra Acharya, Secretary, Animal Rescue,
“We recovered a pangolin from Bangriposi area. The accused, who was in possession of it, was #COVID19 positive. Today, the pangolin was tested. If found to be positive, it’ll be kept in isolation. Otherwise it’ll be released into forest,” ANI tweeted quoting Acharya.
The police had arrested Sindhu Baske, a resident of Gahirapala in Bangiriposhi police station area on Tuesday and recovered a pangolin from his possession.
Sources said following a tip-off of an illegal sale of pangolin, the District Superintendent of Police formed a team. With the help of Bangiriposhi police, the team rescued the pangolin weighing 8 kg from Baske.
