Panic Grips Villages Near Odisha’s Gudari Range As Tiger From Maharashtra Kills Calf

Berhampur: A tiger, which strayed into Odisha from Maharashtra, has sent a wave of panic in around 10 villages near Gudari forest range in Odisha’s Rayagada district.

The villagers are living under fear after a calf carcass was found near Tembaguda village on Tuesday morning with pug marks of the tiger at the scene. “The tiger, which strayed into Odisha from Maharashtra and previously roamed the forests of bordering Gajapati district, ventured into the Gudari range a few weeks ago and killed a calf,” Gudari forest ranger Dilip Patnaik told the media.

This was the tiger’s first kill in the range.

Pug marks were earlier found in the adjacent forest limits of Baliguda range in Kandhamal district.

While advising villagers not to enter the forest alone and keep livestock safe, the Gudari ranger assured that forest sleuths are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of the residents.
