Chennai: Multiple private schools in the city received bomb threats via email on Thursday, resulting in panic among guardians.
Parents hurried to collect their children from the schools in areas like Gopalapuram, Mogappair, Parrys and Anna Nagar after receiving information from the institutions or seeing the news on local TV channels.
The authorities, however, have advised the public to remain calm and refrain from panicking, the PTI report said.
Police are actively looking to identify the person responsible for sending the threatening email to at least four schools. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS) have been dispatched to the schools, including Chennai Public School in DAV Gopalapuram and St Mary’s School in Parrys, to ensure security and thwart any possible sabotage.
“Bomb threat e-mails were received at a few educational Institutions in GCP limits. GCP/ BDDS (Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads) have been sent for Anti-Sabotage Checks in these educational institutions and action is being taken to identifying the culprit who sent these e-mails,” the GCP said in a post on X.
The cyber-crime wing is carrying out an investigation to trace the IP address from which the email was sent and the accused will be caught soon, the Indian Express reported quoting sources.
