Bhubaneswar: The outbreak of dengue has triggered panic among Bhubaneswar denizens, coping with the COVID-induced lockdown amid the declining cases.
According to sources, over 50 mosquito-borne viral infections have been detected in different wards of the city with Niladri Vihar and Sailashree Vihar areas reporting the maximum number of cases.
Alleging inaction by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), locals of the affected wards said that the authorities are yet to drop mosquito oil balls in drains and sprinkle bleaching powders at the garbage dumping areas.
BMC zonal deputy commissioner (ZDC), North Purandar Nanda said that a special team has stepped up awareness in the north zone. “A special drive has begun in ward number 7 and 14 and mosquito oil balls are being dropped in all major and sub-drains and the garbage dumping areas,” he added.
Nanda further informed that Sachetanata Rath will be rolled out in all wards for creating awareness on dengue and malaria.
Meanwhile, a state-level entomological team visited Sailashree Vihar and Niladri Vihar areas to study the prevalence of dengue.
