Mumbai: Actor Pankaj Tripathi’s marriage to his ladylove Mridula was not a cakewalk.
As many as 19 years have gone by since they became man and wife, but Mridula is still waiting to be accepted by his family, especially her mother-in-law.
In an interview with Atul YouTube channel, Mridula shared that she was from a family of high social status while Pankaj’s family was considered to be of lower status in their community. Hence, their marriage was not acceptable.
“It’s still not acceptable. We aren’t blood relatives, but in our culture, it is unacceptable for a woman to be married into a family of a lower stature, if another woman has already been married into a family of a higher stature. And because my sister-in-law had been married above her stature into my family, I couldn’t be married into their family, which was considered of a lower stature,” Mridula revealed.
“My mother-in-law hasn’t accepted me to this day, for the reasons I mentioned earlier. She is still upset about this intermingling. But what can we do about it now?” she asked.
Pankaj and Mridula’s love story started when they were in school. Mridula was in class IX and Pankaj in class XI when they met at the wedding of Mridula’s brother, who got married to Pankaj’s sister.
Pankaj and Mridula fated for 12 years before taking their relation forward in 1993. They have a daughter named Aashi Tripathi.
