Bhubaneswar: The number of arrests in the Paradip Port bribery scandal in Odisha rose to six on Saturday with the CBI arresting a builder, Sisir Kumar Das, in connection with the case.
Earlier on Saturday morning, the CBI arrested Charchit Mishra, son of Odisha industrialist Mahimananda Mishra. Charchit, Director of Orissa Stevedores Ltd (OSL), was arrested after he came to the CBI office at 4 am on Saturday.
The agency on Friday arrested four persons, including a top official of Paradip Port, in connection with the bribery case — Saroj Kumar Das, Chief Mechanical Engineer of Paradip Port, contractor Sumant Rout, KCT Group’s Manager (Port Operations) Sankha Subhra Mitra and OSL DGM (Operations) Surya Narayan Sahoo.
Rout had allegedly given Rs 10 lakh of the bribe money to Sisir Kumar Das with whom Saroj Kumar Das had booked a property.
During searches, the CBI recovered Rs 84.5 lakh from various locations.
