Paradip Port Bribery Case: Son Of Odisha Industrialist Mahima Mishra In 4-Day CBI Custody

Cuttack: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday took industrialist Mahima Mishra’s son Charchit Mishra, who is also director of Orissa Stevedores Ltd (OSL), on 4-day remand for further questioning in the Paradip port bribery case.

He will be produced in court at 2 pm on August 10, sources said.

Charchit was arrested earlier this morning after he came to the CBI office at 4 am. He is a co-accused in serious financial irregularities in the repair and replacement of a conveyor belt of PPT, which was allegedly damaged by OSL while unloading cargo.

The agency on Friday arrested four persons, including a top official of Paradip Port, in connection with the bribery case — Chief Mechanical Engineer of Paradip Port Saroj Kumar Das, contractor Sumant Rout, KCT Group’s Manager (Port Operations) Sankha Subhra Mitra and OSL DGM (Operations) Surya Narayan Sahu.

While repairing the conveyor belt would have cost OSL crores of rupees, Das in conspiracy with Rout, Mitra and Charchit got it repaired at the cost of port trust, causing huge monetary advantage to the Cuttack-based firm.

Rout after consulting Das had demanded Rs 60 lakh bribe from OSL in lieu of the favour and received Rs 25 lakh on August 3.  He kept aside Rs 10 lakh and handed over Rs 10 lakh to Sisir Kumar Das, a real estate developer with whom Das had booked a property, the CBI FIR said.
