They are looking to better their Tokyo performance of 19 medals.
Para shuttlers excelled at the La Chapelle Arena badminton courts, where Nitesh Kumar set the tone with a memorable performance to clinch gold in men’s SL3 singles.
Thulasimathi Murugesan was in line for gold as well, but had to settle for silver in women’s singles SU5 category. Thulasi finished second-best to China’s Qiu Xia Yang, who triumphed 21-17, 21-10.
Suhas Yathiraj managed a silver too after losing 9-21, 13-21 to local player and defending champion Lucas Mazur in the men’s singles SL 4 category final.
Manisha Ramadass, who lost to Thulasi in an all-Indian semifinal, added to the tally by outplaying Denmark’s Cathrine Rosengren 21-12, 21-8 in the bronze-medal match.
In athletics, Yogesh Kathuniya lifted silver with a season’s best throw of 42.22 metres in men’s discus F56 event.
Yogesh had won silver in the Tokyo Paralympics also.
