Bhubaneswar: Odia Army officer Lt General Chandi Prasad Mohanty has been awarded the most prestigious Presidential Award Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) on the occasion of Republic Day.
The award will be conferred on Mohanty by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind at a function to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on the date which will be announced later.
He is also a recipient of Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal.
The PVSM was instituted by the President of India on January 26, 1960, to recognise the distinguished service by the Armed Forces personnel of the most exceptional order.
Mohanty, who presently holds the post of General Officer Commanding in-chief, Southern Command, will take charge as the Vice Chief Of Army Staff, the second highest post of the Indian Army, after the retirement of Lt Gen SK Saini on January 31.
