Parents Abandon Critically Ill Baby In Capital Hospital In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A couple have reportedly absconded leaving their critically ill newborn baby in Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

According to sources, Prashant Nayak’s wife Mamata had given birth to the baby girl in a hospital in Nayagarh a few days back. As the baby was underweight and not keeping well, the couple came to Capital Hospital to consult the doctors on January 18.

The hospital doctors found the baby critically ill and admitted her in SNCU immediately. Since the baby weighed 860 gram on birth, she was given blood and medicines under the supervision of the doctors in the critical care unit.

Soon after the baby was admitted in the hospital, Prashant and Mamata left without informing anybody. As they did not turn up even after 2-3 days, the hospital authorities contracted child welfare committee (CWC) in Nayagarah and informed the police.

A team from Capital police station went to the hospital on Saturday and started investigation. The condition of the baby continued to be critical, hospital authorities said.
