Sambalpur: Parents of the baby girl, who was rescued from an abandoned borewell in Rengali area of Odisha’s Sambalpur district 22 days ago, have been identified, a senior police official said on Tuesday.
The mother of the baby is not mentally sound and she is now undergoing treatment at the SCB Hospital in Cuttack. She hails from Rengali area, Superintendent of Police Mukesh Bhamu told reporters.
The parents of the child have confessed before the police that the baby is theirs, he said, adding that the woman had thrown the baby into the borewell 5-6 hours after the birth. The SP, however, did not disclose the identity of the baby’s mother.
The rescued baby girl is their second child and the DNA samples of the two will be collected for test and further steps.
Further investigation into the incident will be carried out after the recovery of the baby’s mother, he said
The baby was rescued from the abandoned well at Laripali under Rengali police limits on December 12. Thereafter, she has been undergoing treatment at VIMSAR in Burla.
