Mumbai: Actor Parineeti Chopra was all praise for her husband-AAP MP Raghav Chadha over his Parliament speech, which prompted Civil Aviation Ministry to launch Udaan Yatri Cafe offering affordable options.
The first cafe has been opened at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.
“So so proud of you, my @raghav_chadha, for being a true leader for the people, and fixing a real problem!” she posted on X on Tuesday with an old edited video of Raghav speaking about “food affordability” in Parliament’s winter session about a month ago.
“Overpriced food at airports is an issue that resonates with so many Indians (including us), and your voice has brought a real change starting with the #UdaanYatriCafe. Yayy for cheaper food and drinks at airports! (Heart eyes emoji) Proud of you, my Ragaii! (Sparkles emoji),” she added.
In December 2024, Raghav Chadha raised the matter in Parliament, pointing out that passengers were being forced to pay exorbitant prices for basic items like water bottles (Rs 100) and tea (Rs 200-250). “Can’t the government establish affordable canteens at airports?” he had questioned.
According to the menu of the UDAN Yatri Cafe, passengers can get a water bottle and tea for just Rs 10 each, while coffee, samosas, and the sweet of the day cost Rs 20.
“It’s not just my victory, but the victory of the people of India. I try and spend a lot of time with the people and understand the challenges, issues that a common passenger faces at India’s airports,” Raghav Chadha told India Today.
The AAP leader also hoped that “it is not just a pilot project at the Kolkata airport but takes shape at all airports across the country.”
With the Delhi assembly elections slated for February 5, Parineeti’s tweet and Raghav’s statement, however, have assumed a political colour.
