New Delhi: Delhi Police on Friday transferred the FIR filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with the scuffle at Parliament to the Crime Branch.
“The Crime Branch will now investigate this case,” an officer said.
Several MPs from BJP-led NDA and Congress-led Opposition got engaged in a nasty showdown at the Makar Dwar of Parliament on Thursday over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
The two sides held protests and counter-protests, and traded accusations of insulting the architect of India’s Constitution.
BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were hospitalised after reportedly suffering head injuries following a scuffle between BJP and Congress leaders.
A delegation of BJP MPs, accusing Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of “physical assault and incitement”, filed a complaint based on which an FIR was registered at Parliament Street police station.
The Congress hit back and alleged that BJP MPs tried to stop their MPs, including women, from protesting against Shah’s remarks on Ambedkar in Rajya Sabha.
Rahul claimed that BJP MPs tried to prevent him from entering Parliament, pushed him and threatened him. He also urged that footage of the incident be studied to get the actual picture.
The Congress filed a counter-complaint with Parliament Street police, alleging that BJP leaders misbehaved with Mallikarjun Kharge.
No FIR, however, has been registered based on Congress’ complaint.
