Bhubaneswar: The Biju Patnaik International Airport here has achieved a milestone with passenger movement crossing the four-million mark during the 2018-19 fiscal.
With this achievement, Bhubaneswar airport has joined eight other major airports operated by Airports Authority of India (AAI) with over 4 million annual traffic. They are Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Goa, Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati and Trivendrum.
The 27.9 per cent growth in passenger traffic was led by the exponential rise in both domestic and international passenger traffic.
According to the latest data released by AAI, the city handled 41,58,731 domestic passenger traffic between April 2018 and March 2019 and 94,320 passengers during the same period.
During the 2017-18 financial year, the airport had handled 32,50,635 passengers.
The airport also registered a 31.2 per cent jump in aircraft movement during the 2018-19 fiscal, with the total number of flight landing and taking off going up to 30,390 as against 23,155 during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
About 50 flight are handled by the airport currently, touching major cities in the country and international destinations such as Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.
