Bhubaneswar: Air passengers staged a protest at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on Thursday over frequent cancellation of flights.
Annoyed over frequent flight cancellations, a large number of passengers staged protest at the airport demanding immediate arrangements for their travel.
As per information, Air India flight IX 2932 was scheduled to depart from Bhubaneswar to Hyderabad at 9.55 am on Wednesday. However, the flight was cancelled due to some reason and it was rescheduled to 8.45 am on Thursday. However, the flight was again cancelled causing severe inconvenience to the passengers.
Sources said the passengers were upset over frequent cancellation of a Hyderabad bound flight with many of them citing that they have to travel immediately for urgent works.
Many of the passengers had to catch connecting flights in Hyderabad, while some others had urgent official work.
Similarly, some of them cited medical emergencies, a few of the passengers want to reach Hyderabad to attend urgent works.
They said a flight to Hyderabad had been cancelled since Wednesday. However, no clarification has been issued by the airlines and the authorities concerned regarding the cancellation and the exact position.
Later speaking on the issue, Bhubaneswar Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan reportedly stated that there was a delay in the arrival of the flight from Hyderabad due to technical issues.
He said the flight landed in Bhubaneswar at 11.15 am on Thursday and the aircraft was almost ready for departure. As per the guidelines of the airlines, replacement and rescheduling of the connecting passengers have already been done, he said.
