Passengers Stranded In Chilika Lake Rescued

Bhubaneswar: Nearly 70 passengers stranded on a floating bridge in Chilika Lake near Satapada in Odisha’s Puri district have been rescued.

“It was two metre away from Satpada. It got stuck due to strong winds and low water. All passengers were immediately pulled to safety by barge,” Chilika Development Authority CEO Susanta Nanda said on Saturday.

According to sources, the bridge was caught up in strong winds while moving towards Satpada from Janhikuda. The driver was unable to steer the bridge and it deviated from the channel dug up for movement of large sailing vessels and got stuck in shallow water around 2 pm.

Besides people, a bus, two cars and motorcycles were also loaded on the floating bridge.

On being informed, the authorities swung into action and rescued the passengers of the sailing vessel.
